About Calvary

A Church Built Around the Gospel

We exist to glorify God by helping people know Christ, grow in His Word, and live on mission.

Our Story

Calvary began in 1969 as Calvary Christian Chapel as the only independent, Baptistic church in Pleasants County, West Virginia. We are a family of believers joined together by our faith in Jesus Christ and a desire to make Him known. Though the name has changed over the years, our mission and desire has remained. We believe church should be a place where the Bible is faithfully taught, Christ is honored, families are strengthened, friendships are formed, and people are encouraged to faithfully follow God in everyday life.

What Matters to Us

These values shape how we worship, grow, and serve together.

Biblical Truth

We believe God’s Word is trustworthy, sufficient, and central to everything we do, and that it should be the final authority in the life a believer.

Gospel Community

Church is more than a crowd. We build relationships marked by grace, truth, and care. We long to see lives changed by the truth of the gospel.

Prayerful Dependence

We seek God together, believing lasting ministry is accomplished through His strength. We seek to serve the Lord in all we do.

Faithful Mission

We serve our neighbors and support Gospel work beyond our own community. From St. Marys to Africa and beyond, our mission is the gospel.
